This segment was originally intended to be the opening statements, but we decided to make it into a seperate preview to save time, because holy hell this is going to be a big one. This match-up was originally Matt's idea, and about a year ago, he approached me about doing it as a collab, and I jumped onboard. Raana Tey and Darth Maladi are characters that we've both been interested in for some time, and as we discussed it, we realized the fascinating thematic and ideological commonalities that existed between them, and concluded that this was simply too good to pass up.
Both were power-players within the inner circles of rogue factions within their respective orders, which led to an intriguing role-reversal. The Jedi Covenant that trained Raana was so hell-bent on preventing the return of the Sith that they ended up adopting shockingly ruthless policies that weren't dissimilar to what the actual Dark Lords implemented, while the One Sith Order that brought up Maladi was built around a system of fascistic control and indoctrination that would be more accurately described as a corruption of the Jedi way. Neither truly served their intended purpose in life, as the circumstances of their careers were dominated by the polluted ideals of their leaders, who had themselves sacrificed much of what their orders had traditionally championed in the name of obsession.
But however much we criticize and disapprove of these characters and their actions on philosophical and moral grounds, these flaws and contradictions are ultimately what makes them so fascinating and memorable in the first place. A year later, we're finally here to present the result:
Raana Tey and Darth Maladi.
If these two noted figures in galactic history ever met in single combat, who would win?
